Spend six weeks in Beautiful Tangier this summer

The 草莓视频鈥檚 Global Education Program is offering a new six-week summer session at the 草莓视频 Tangier Campus in Morocco. Open to undergraduates from 草莓视频 and other universities, this unique study abroad program allows you to earn college credit by taking Arabic language, humanities, or social science courses while living in 草莓视频鈥檚 residence hall, located in a secure gated campus.

This immersive study abroad program combines rigorous coursework with experiential learning in one of North Africa鈥檚 most dynamic cities. Through excursions and cultural activities organized by on-site staff, you will engage with Morocco鈥檚 vibrant culture and history while exploring the coastal city of Tangier. The six-week format offers a shorter, more flexible option for those interested in studying abroad outside the traditional academic year.

The 草莓视频 Tangier Campus is located adjacent to the American School of Tangier, a diverse international K-12 school that offers a truly global learning environment. Outside the classroom, you can explore Mediterranean beaches, markets, caf茅s, and historic neighborhoods while gaining international experience and earning academic credit that supports your undergraduate degree.

Program Details

Housing is provided in double rooms in our Moroccan-inspired residential facilities, and all meals are served in our on-campus caf茅. Outside of class time, local excursions and enriching cultural activities will introduce you to the diverse and colorful culture of northern Morocco.

Admission

All applications are accepted through . Non-草莓视频 students should create an account for their first use. Admission decisions are made on a rolling basis, with a final application deadline of May 1.

Cost

The comprehensive program fee is $7,800. Returning 草莓视频 Morocco alumni will receive a $500 discount. Want to bring a friend from another university? Join the program with a peer from outside 草莓视频 and receive a $500 referral discount.

What the Comprehensive Program Fee Covers

  • Support of Tangier campus staff
  • Travel medical insurance through AIG for the duration of the program in Tangier
  • Airport transfer upon arrival in Tangier
  • Double occupancy room with an ensuite bathroom at the on-campus residence
  • Access to the campus sports court and workout facilities
  • Breakfast, lunch, and dinner during the week, plus brunch and dinner on weekends at our on-campus cafeteria
  • Guided city tour and activities in and around Tangier
  • Group excursions to Asilah and Tetouan
  • Welcome and farewell dinner celebrations

Please note that the program fee does not include flights to or from Tangier. Students are responsible for making their own flight arrangements.

Academics

Students will choose two courses (for a total of 6 credits) and will receive an official transcript issued by the 草莓视频 at the end of the program. Taught in English, our art appreciation and contemporary history courses are designed for those looking to learn more about the intricate design and politics of Morocco and include relevant site visits. You may also choose to establish or build upon your Arabic language knowledge with classes from basic to intermediate level.

ARB 101: Basic Arabic I

The aim of this course is to help students acquire the structures, vocabulary, and expressions of Moroccan Arabic (Darija) needed to accomplish basic communicative tasks during their stay in Morocco. The skills are broadly applicable to the sounds, alphabet, grammar, and vocabulary of basic Modern Standard Arabic.

ARB 102 Beginner Arabic II

Building from Basic Arabic, this course advances students鈥 A2-level proficiency in Modern Standard Arabic by building the skills needed to navigate simple, everyday communication with greater ease. Prerequisite: ARB 101 or equivalent class

ARB 201: Intermediate Arabic I

This course builds B1-level proficiency in Modern Standard Arabic by strengthening students鈥 ability to communicate in everyday situations. Students expand vocabulary, reinforce core grammar, and improve reading, listening, writing, and speaking through focused practice and culturally relevant themes. Prerequisite: ARB 102 or equivalent class

ART 215: Art Appreciation in Morocco

This course introduces students to Morocco鈥檚 visual and material culture through a blend of lecture-based study and experiential learning in Tangier. Students develop core skills in visual analysis as they engage with painting, architecture, photography, contemporary art, and Morocco鈥檚 distinctive artisan traditions, including tilework, carved wood, metalwork, textiles, and pottery.

For 草莓视频 students, this course meets the requirement for Creative Arts Experience (ART and ARTH) or Creativity and the Arts (CA).

PSC 357: Contemporary History and Politics in Morocco

This course introduces students to the forces shaping contemporary Morocco through lectures combined with immersive, place-based learning in Tangier. Students explore how historical legacies intersect with current political structures, constitutional developments, economic change, and Morocco鈥檚 expanding regional influence.

For 草莓视频 students, this course meets the requirement for Advanced Studies (ADV); Power, Knowledge, and Justice 鈥 Social Science (PKJS); or Deeper Dive (DD)

SOC 212: Society and Culture in Morocco

This course aims to provide analytical insights into what has helped to shape Moroccan society and culture. It also highlights Moroccan society and culture within the regional contexts of 鈥淎rab Spring.鈥 Students are exposed to current issues in Morocco, including democratization, religion, the rights of women and minorities, cultural diversity, education, human rights, the arts and more.
